How to sign up for Avito on a virtual number

The steps, the call-back check a receive-only number cannot pass, and why a Russian number is a special case
Avito confirms a number two ways: an SMS code, and an outgoing call to its toll-free 8 800 line. The first works on a one-time number; the second cannot — such a number only receives SMS, it cannot place calls. Two more things are worth knowing in advance: the number may already be attached to someone else’s account, and Russian numbers are far thinner on the ground in the catalogue than numbers from elsewhere.
The steps
- Get the number. Country choice matters more here than in messengers — see below. Prices are on the Avito page.
- Open the Avito sign-in form and enter the number with its country code.
- Wait for the SMS. The code appears in the interface where you took the number.
- Enter the code. Pressing "resend" voids the previous code — type the one that arrived last.
- Fill in the profile and attach an e-mail address straight away: it is the only recovery channel you will still have once the number returns to the pool.
Which country to pick
Avito is a Russian marketplace and a Russian number is the most natural fit for it. But Russia is carried by one provider of ten in the catalogue, so when that provider runs out there is nowhere else to take it from. Numbers from other countries are more widely available and cheaper — Avito does accept SMS on them, but a profile with a foreign dialling code is checked manually more often.

When the code does not arrive, or the number is rejected

What a new account can do
A fresh Avito profile is limited: some categories require identity confirmation, and the first listings go to manual moderation more often. None of that is caused by the number being virtual — the platform behaves this way with any new account.

- The first listings take longer than usual to clear moderation.
- A burst of activity in the first days is the fastest way to trigger a verification demand.
What happens once the number returns to the pool
The account stays yours as long as you do not sign out. But anything that needs the number confirmed again — signing in from a new device, resetting the password by SMS, changing the binding — becomes impossible, because no message will reach that number. The e-mail on the profile and a password you actually remember are not a formality here; they are the only way not to lose access.
If the account is meant to last and you plan to trade on it, move it to your permanent number while you are still signed in.
