How to verify a Discord phone with a virtual number

The steps, why servers demand a verified phone, and why the number’s prefix is what decides
Discord does not need a phone to register — the account runs on an e-mail. The number is needed elsewhere: many servers set "verified phone" as a condition of entry, and Discord itself asks for one on suspicious activity. Hence the usual case: the account already exists and you need exactly one code.
The steps
- Get the number. Coverage and prices are on the Discord page.
- Open User Settings → My Account and start adding a phone.
- Enter the number with its country code and wait for the SMS.
- Enter the code. Move two-factor to an authenticator app straight away — it does not depend on the number and survives its return.
Which country to pick
Coverage is wide — up to nine providers of ten, widest in Kenya, Indonesia, the Netherlands and Brazil. Discord filters number ranges rather than countries: when one number fails, what helps is a different prefix — that is, a different country — not a retry.

When the code does not arrive

What happens once the number returns to the pool
The verification stays on the account, but if Discord asks for the phone again — and it does on a device change or a suspicious login — there will be nowhere to receive the code. Two-factor in an app plus saved backup codes closes that risk entirely.
