How to register Tinder on a virtual number

The steps, "carrier not supported", and why the device matters more than the number
Tinder filters out numbers it reads as recycled or VoIP, and the refusal reads "carrier not supported" or "too many attempts". But something matters more than the number: Tinder remembers the device. If a banned account already lived on this phone, a new number changes nothing.
The steps
- Get the number. Coverage and prices are on the Tinder page.
- Enter the number with its country code in the app.
- Wait for the SMS code.
- Fill in the profile calmly: mass swiping in the first hours is a quick route to reduced visibility.
Which country to pick
Coverage is middling — seven providers of ten at most, widest in Vietnam, the Netherlands, Thailand and Brazil. Tinder is especially sensitive to numbers already used on dating platforms, which makes the cheapest destinations riskier here than usual.

When the code does not arrive

What happens once the number returns to the pool
Tinder uses the number to sign in, not only to register. Once it is returned there is nothing to sign in with unless e-mail or a third-party login is attached. Set an alternative up straight away.

- "Carrier not supported" is fixed by changing country, not by retrying.
- A device ban is not lifted by a new number.
- Cheap destinations are riskier here than usual.
- Set up an alternative sign-in, or the account closes to you when the number goes back.
